Incumbents to seek terms on college board

January 30, 2014

Incumbents for the Howard County Junior College District didn’t let the preverbal grass grow under their feet when it came to filing candidacy papers for the May election.

Dr. John Freeman, Marie Ethridge, Adrian Calvio and Dr. Charles Warren filed Wednesday — the first day to file as a candidate — for their intent to seek another term on the college board.

Furr's closes doors; shopping center may take its place

The popular cafeteria-style restaurant shut its doors Sunday evening and will not be reopening.

Wanda M. Rudinger

Wanda M. Rudinger, 58, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Covenant Church with Pastor Craig Felty officiating.

She was born to Alice and Charles Churchwell in California. She married James Rudinger Aug. 13, 1977, in Big Spring. She was a longtime resident of Big Spring and was a teacher for the Big Spring Independent School District. She was a member of Cornerstone Covenant Church.

Mary Dean Cuthbertson, 88, of Houma, La., formerly of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014. Funeral services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring.

Goodblanket signs with Lady Hawks

The way Valerie Goodblanket sees it, both she and the Howard College Lady Hawks got a good deal on Wednesday. She got to stay close to her roots, and the Lady Hawks got a good player.
Goodblanket officially signed on the dotted line on Wednesday afternoon, agreeing to play next season with the Lady Hawks’ softball program. The Big Spring High School senior signed her Letter of Intent in a special ceremony in front of her family and friends in the BSHS foyer.
