Perla Faye O'Brien

Perla Faye O'Brien, 84, of San Angelo, left her earthly home Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, to be with her Heavenly Father.

Perla was born Perla Faye Hunt Oct. 19, 1929, in Sterling City, Texas. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1947 and married C. L. O'Brien May 20, 1959, in Big Spring, Texas. He preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1999. She was a homemaker and an artist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and a sister.

Stock show moves to new location

January 7, 2014

Area youths will show off months of work as the Howard County Junior Stock Show is set to begin Wednesday.
This year, the stock show will be held at the G.C. Broughton Ag Complex for the first time. The complex is located on the Howard College campus between the east side of Memorial Stadium and the west side of Foundation Softball Field.

Council members to pay summary judgement

January 7, 2014

A case that has been years in the courts was resolved for the most part Monday in a summary judgement passed down by 118th District Judge Tim Yeats.
The result will cost Big Spring City Council members Marcus Fernandez and Glen Carrigan and local business firms Quad A and Hydro Dynamics several thousand dollars.

Larry Bob Conway, 64, died Monday in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

James David Yater

James David Yater, 74, of Irving, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in an Irving hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with the Reverand Mel Hardin, officiating . Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring.
He was born July 6, 1939, in Ingram, Texas and married Kay Leatherwood May 26, 1962, in Big Spring, Texas.

Elmer Lindsey

Elmer Lindsey, 77, of Coahoma,Texas, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Sunday Jan. 5, 2014, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church of Big Spring.
Elmer was born to Montie and Frank Lindsey March 28,1936, in Tahoka, Texas. He was longtime member of the Coahoma and Tahoka Lions Clubs. He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of First Presbyterian Church for over 35 years.

Howard A. Stevens

Howard A. Stevens, 79, of Big Spring, died Monday Jan. 6, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Monsignor Bernard L. Gully officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

James Arthur Goll

James Arthur Goll went to be with the Lord while a patient at Scenic Mountain Hospital on the 4th of January 2014 at the age of 98. He was born in New Braunfels, Texas and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp ( a public relief program designed to help people during the depression). He served in the United States Army during World War II. His unit marched from Northern Africa up to Europe and because he spoke perfect German his unit sent him behind the lines to infiltrate the enemy. U.S.
