Mary Dean Cuthbertson, 88, of Houma, La., formerly of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014. Funeral services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring.

Goodblanket signs with Lady Hawks

The way Valerie Goodblanket sees it, both she and the Howard College Lady Hawks got a good deal on Wednesday. She got to stay close to her roots, and the Lady Hawks got a good player.
Goodblanket officially signed on the dotted line on Wednesday afternoon, agreeing to play next season with the Lady Hawks’ softball program. The Big Spring High School senior signed her Letter of Intent in a special ceremony in front of her family and friends in the BSHS foyer.

City posts boil-water notice

Tuesday's water line break near the city treatment plant caused more than inconvenience to residents — it caused a health hazard.

Big Spring officials issued a “boil water” advisory to city residents Tuesday afternoon, saying the water was unsafe to consume.

Interim Public Works Director Johnny Womack said Tuesday's water main break, which occurred next to the city water treatment plant on Virginia Street, forced pressure levels below state-mandated levels.

City council to parked cars: Get off our lawns

Fed up with what they call eyesores, Big Spring City Council members expressed overwhelming support during their Tuesday meeting for tougher codes to force residents to rid their front yards of parked vehicles.

Guadalupe 'Lupe' Alcantar Ramirez

Guadalupe “Lupe” Alcantar Ramirez, 82, of Big Spring died Monday Jan. 27, 2014, at her residence. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial following at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

She was born to Isabel and Andres Alcantar Sr. in Big Spring on Dec. 31, 1931. She was a lifelong resident of Big Spring. She worked at the Big Spring State Hospital kitchen. She married Eusebio Ramirez in Big Spring in March 1949. He preceded her in death September 2, 1986.

Linda Jo Arnold

Linda Jo Arnold, age 70, a resident of Irving, Texas, for 49 years, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at her home.

Born June 15, 1943, in Big Spring, Texas, the daughter of Edward Elmo Phillips and Dorothy Belle Riggs Phillips, she was a retired bookkeeper and nanny. Linda married Norman R. Arnold May 1, 1964. She coached junior bowling and was a coordinator for that program in Irving for many years; participated in the Irving Police Department’s Citizens on Patrol program; and attended the Heritage Senior Center.

Carol Ann Nemmers Kurth

Carol Ann Nemmers Kurth was born Jan. 14, 1940, in San Diego, Calif., to Joseph and Mary Ella Nemmers. She was raised all over the country due to her father's work as a contractor. She attended Ohio State, Marquette University and Dakota Wesleyan University, where she acquired several degrees, including an RN and a BSN.

She married Robert Schmidt Sr. and had four children; three sons and a daughter.
