Athol âJessâ Atkins, 83, of Midland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at 10 a.m. at West Kentucky Baptist Church in Midland with Brother Bob Porterfield officiating. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.

Speck Bray, 69, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel, with Courtney Ballard, pastor of Circuit Riders Cowboy Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Speck was born Nov. 9, 1944, at Whiteface, Texas, to Obelia and Ott Bray. He served 24 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a sergeant first class in 1982. He was a Vietnam veteran.
Deborah Carothers Hanson, 62, of Lubbock, Texas, took the hand of her savior on Tuesday Jan. 21, 2014, and finished her race. The family will receive friends for sharing and remembering her life on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. for visitation.
Evelyn L. Merrill Minear passed away at her home Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. She was born Sept.16, 1913, to E.D. Merrill and Irene Merrill in Big Spring, Texas. The family moved to Baird, Texas, and then returned to Big Spring in 1926.
Evelyn attended school and worked for three years after completing high school in Big Spring. She attended the first IBM school in Dallas and returned to Big Spring and worked for Cosden Refinery Co. for 16 years.
Evelyn married Roy A. Minear of Midland, Texas, on Dec. 31, 1957, where they resided until his death in 1984, and she continued to reside.
Delmer Lee Turner, 82, of Big Spring, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Delmer was born March 9, 1931, in Big Spring, and married Evelyn Sue Norris Nov. 18, 1966 in Big Spring. She preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1985.
The cause of a fire which left a Big Spring couple homeless is tragic reminder of the importance of paying attention to fire safety within the home.
âPeople really do need to read the directions of their space heaters,â said Fire Marshal Carl Condray.
