Big Spring, backed by a solid outing from Ty Sealy, kept its dreams of earning a berth in the Class 3A state basketball playoffs alive and healthy on Friday by pounding out a nail-biting 53-50 win over the Greenwood Rangers.

The Greenwood Lady Rangers did what few teams have managed to do this season. They slowed the Big Spring Lady Steers’ offense to a crawl.
Greenwood limited 17th-ranked Big Spring to just eight points in the first half on Friday and rolled to a stunning 35-26 victory in a key District 4-3A matchup.

Mustangs roll past Coahoma

COAHOMA - The Denver City Mustangs posted a huge run over the final four minutes of the first quarter on Friday night and cruised to a 71-27 win over the Coahoma Bulldogs on Friday night in District 4-2A action.

Four arrested in drug bust

Local and county law enforcement officials capped a months-long investigation when they arrested four Big Spring residents on drug charges Wednesday morning.

Serrano appointed to Big Spring ISD board

Fabian Serrano will serve single member District 7 on the Big Spring Independent School District Board of Trustees, for now. Trustees voted to appoint Serrano to the position Thursday night although he will still need to apply to run in the May election if he wants to serve the full term.

Tony Randall Partee

Tony Randall Partee, 54, of Big Spring, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, in Ruidoso, N.M. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Pastor Wade Cobb, officiating. Private family interment will follow.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 14, 1959, in Odessa, Texas. Tony graduated from Big Spring High School and attended trade school, learning the art of welding. He worked as a welder on the Gulf Coast and in the oil field.
