Sarah Stinnett and Bailey Wipff each poured in 17 points and LaTanya McMaryion added nine as the Howard College women nailed down a 59-49 victory over rival Western Texas in the regular season finale at the Scurry County Coliseum.

Annual warrant roundup is Saturday

Jail may be an unwelcome option for some area residents unless they pay off outstanding warrants at the Howard County justice of the peace and Big Spring municipal court offices.

The JP offices in Big Spring will hold their annual warrant roundup starting Saturday, giving people who have been lax in paying off traffic tickets and other Class C misdemeanors one last chance to avoid jail time for their misdeeds.

Prospectors plan mineral show for Saturday and Sunday here

The Big Spring Prospectors Club will polish up its annual Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show Saturday and Sunday in the Howard County Fair Barns. It’s the 45th anniversary of the show.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 10 to 5 Sunday.

Admission is free.

John Wade Moody Jr.

John Wade Moody Jr., 82, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, in a nursing home in Big Spring, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, in the Nalley-Pickle-Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. John Marshall, deacon of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, officiating and Deacon Connie Fowler assisting. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson, Texas.

Trudy Page

February 28, 2014

Trudy Page, 46, of Big Spring, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in in a Dallas hospital after a long battle with pulmonary hypertension. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Tom Koger officiating.

She was born Jan. 27, 1968, to Minnie and Clifford McAllister in San Angelo. She married Dennis Page April 29, 1983. She was a Baptist and enjoyed spending time with her family. Some her fondest memories were growing up playing with her sister and brother. She had been a distributor for the Dallas Morning News.

Viola Elizabeth (Robinson) Hillger

Viola Elizabeth (Robinson) Hillger, 85, of Big Spring, formerly of Garden City, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Herb McPherson officiating with burial at The Garden City Cemetery.

William Howard 'Willie' Martin

William Howard "Willie" Martin, 69, of Cleburne, formerly of Big Spring, died Friday Feb. 21, 2014. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Tom Forbes officiating.

He was born Nov. 30, 1944, to Guadalupe and George Henry Martin Sr. in Poteet, Texas. He worked in the oilfield and lived in Howard County for a number of years, living in Ackerly and Big Spring.
