Pilots: Pump your own gas

The self-serve gas pump, long a fixture for automobile drivers, will soon be available to pilots at Big Spring Airport.

Crews began installing two 12,000-gallon fuel tanks at the airport Wednesday morning. When the project is complete, pilots of aircraft ranging from single-propellor Cessnas to business-class jets will be able to “gas ’n’ go” just as easily as their earthbound counterparts.

HC plans Earth Day events

Howard College students are not only learning and earning for life they are making a positive impact in the community with a diversity of projects.

As an Earth Day Project, Howard College art, biology and workforce departments are working together to collect items needed for the continued operation of the Howard County Humane Society. Assistant Professors Dr. Annie McKinnon, biology, Dr. Steven Hobbs, workforce and assistant professor of art/department head, Stacy Slaten, are collecting items for the local animal shelter.

Florencia Gamboa

April 17, 2014

Florencia Gamboa, 97, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

She was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Marfa, Texas and married Elias Gamboa Sr. July 9, 1931, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1991.

She moved to Big Spring from Marfa at the age of 7 and made Big Spring her home. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and the Guadalupana Society.

Big Spring could shine at area track meet

The Big Spring High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams could be in for an enjoyable day at the Area Track and Field Championships this afternoon in Pecos. The two teams head into the meet with a bevy of athletes that are favored to contend for victories in their respective events.

Forsan rallies for 5-4 win over Miles

The Forsan Buffaloes scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to complete a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the Miles Bulldogs in front of a large crowd at the Forsan ISD field.
