Kindergarten rodeo to be named after Quail Dobbs

COAHOMA — Quail Dobbs’ legacy will be alive and well Friday when the memory of the well-known professional rodeo clown and Coahoma leader is honored during the annual Coahoma kindergarten stick horse rodeo, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the elementary gymnasium.

“We’ve changed the name of the rodeo this year to the Quail Dobbs Legacy Coahoma Kindergarten Rodeo to honor him in this way,” said Coahoma ISD kindergarten teacher Natalie Rochelle.

13 locals jailed on drug charges

Tuesday was April’s Fools Day, but it was anything but a joking matter for 13 individuals arrested during the latest drug sweep conducted by area law enforcement officials.

The sweep was conducted by the Big Spring Police Department with assistance from the Howard County and Sterling County sheriff offices, Homeland Security and U.S. Marshalls.

Sandra Cross Cox, 75, of Big Spring, died Sunday March 30, 2014, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Mahlaya Da’Nae Woodruff

April 2, 2014

Mahlaya Da’Nae Woodruff, 5, of Coahoma died Sunday March 31, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 7, 2009, in Big Spring to Krystal and Curtis Woodruff. She was a pre-K student at Coahoma Elementary.
