TxDOT breaks ground on Hwy. 87 reliever route

A ground-breaking ceremony for the largest construction project in the history of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Abilene District to date — the US 87 Truck Relief Route — was held Friday at the Hangar 25 Air Museum.

Local, state and federal dignitaries celebrated the moment by speaking of the project’s history, economical importance and the collaborative effort by West Texas communities to bring the bypass to fruition. Yet, of all the eloquent words spoken at the podium Friday morning, one long-time advocate of the Ports-to-Plains trade corridor said it best.

County finalizing road repair projects

Howard County commissioners are close to finalizing plans for a multi-million dollar road renovation which, if all goes well, will begin this summer.

When they meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the county courthouse, commissioners will finalize an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation which will clear the way for that state agency to provide almost $4 million in grant money for county road repair.

Maryn Nicole and Marit DeAnn Childress

Our precious daughters Maryn Nicole and Marit DeAnn Childress went to be with Jesus in heaven on April 18, 2014, in Houston, Texas. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Grape Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Winchester officiating.

Although our angels were with us just a short while, they wove their life into our hearts forever, and we will carry them in our hearts always.

Maryn Nicole and Marit DeAnn were preceded in death by their grandfather, Dwain Childress, of San Angelo and grandmother, Vicky Logsdon, of Big Spring.

Funeral services for Jeffrey Young will be held at the First Baptist Church of Stanton at 2 p.m. Wednesday April, 30, 2014. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery.

He was born April 6, 1965, in Stanton to the late Joseph II and Bobbie Young. He was the eigth of nine children. Jeffery attended public school in Stanton. He worked for Ellis & Son Plumbing and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Jeffrey passed away in San Antonio on Wednesday April 23, 2014.
