The Big Spring High School boysâ€™ and girlsâ€™ track and field teams could be in for an enjoyable day at the Area Track and Field Championships this afternoon in Pecos. The two teams head into the meet with a bevy of athletes that are favored to contend for victories in their respective events.

City of Big Spring employees are getting a raise in pay, with the possibility of even more increases in the near future.
The city council voted unanimously to approve a 6 percent, across-the-board pay increase for all city employees during a special meeting Tuesday evening.

Considered a â€śgo to girlâ€ť by her peers, Lacey Brown has been named recipient of Howard Collegeâ€™s 2013-2014 Presidential Award.
Brown, a wife and resident of Abilene, was one of dozens of students honored Tuesday night during the collegeâ€™s annual awards ceremony at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.The Presidential Award for Outstanding Student of the Year is the most prestigious award given to a student at Howard College. Selection is based on academic excellence, participation in student life, leadership qualities and overall college spirit.
Wilma Brooks, 66 of Stanton died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in a Midland hospital. Funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Belvue Church of Christ in Stanton. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Central time at the Portales Cemetery, Portales, N.M.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton.
Wilma was born Nov. 3, 1947 in Portales, N.M. to Jim and Freeda Vernon McBride. She married Bill Brooks Nov. 23, 1967 in Portales.
Mark Edwards, 56, of Big Spring, died Sunday March 30, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Coahoma Cemetery.
He was born to Katherine and James Edwards on Feb. 2, 1958, in Big Spring. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County. He was a long haul and oilfield truck driver until retiring in 2013 due to ill health. He was a member of East Fourth Baptist Church.
Florencia Gamboa, 97, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at her residence. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
