Anthony “Ant” Herrera, 30, of Big Spring, died Saturday March 22, 2014 in Ward County, Texas. Vigil services will by 7 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Big Spring with burial following at Trinity Memorial Park.

He was born to Diane and George Herrera on Feb. 28, 1984 in Big Spring. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Coahoma High School. He played baseball at Howard College and at Sul Ross State University.

Nairn takes 4th at state meet

Tyler Nairn came about as close to medaling at the 2014 Texas Powerlifting State Championships as humanly possible on Saturday at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene. Maybe even closer.

Steers run to Greenwood crown

The Big Spring Steers’ varsity track and field team won seven events, including the 4x200-meter relay, on Thursday and sprinted to the boys’ team title at the Greenwood Invitational at King Memorial Stadium. The Steers rolled up 138 points in the meet and finished three points head of Greenwood. Stanton was a close third with 122.

Guinn shares lead at 4-3A golf tourney

Big Spring High School senior Kelsie Guinn is right where she wanted to be following the completion of the first round of the District 4-3A Golf Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Ward County Golf Course in Monahans - in first place.

Wanted — artistic and maybe not so artistic cross-stitch needlework volunteers.

The Howard County Fair Association is in need of volunteers to help cross stitch squares for the annual Howard County Fair Quilt.
