Big Spring JV teams post 3-1 record during impressive run

The Big Spring High School junior varsity baseball teams have turned in solid performances over the last few games. The teams have combined to go 3-1 over the past few days, netting wins over Forsan and Sweetwater.

DePauw wins flight at PBLA golf tournament in Odessa

Big Spring’s Tammy DePauw put on her best impersonation of Tiger Woods on Tuesday afternoon at the Permian Basin Ladies Association tournament at Ratliff Ranch Golf Club in Odessa.

BSHS teams to run in Greenwood track meet

The Big Spring High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams will be competing in the Midland Greenwood track meet this afternoon at the GHS track. The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a scratch meeting. The field events will get under way at 3:30 with the pole vault competition.

Stanton grabs early lead at 4-2A meet

The Stanton High School Buffaloes grabbed the early lead at the 2014 District 4-2A Boys’ Golf Championships earlier this week. The Buffaloes fired a 328 over the first 18 holes of the tournament and head into the final round with a 30 stroke lead over Denver City. The Coahoma High School boys’ team is currently fifth in the team standings, 55 strokes behind Stanton with a team score of 383.

Steers score two in 10th, slip by Greenwood

GREENWOOD - The Big Spring High School Steers scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning on Tuesday and claimed a tough 5-3 victory over the Greenwood Rangers in a key District 4-3A showdown.

BSHS suffers loss to Greenwood

The Greenwood High School Lady Rangers scored 10 runs in the third inning on Tuesday and raced to a 17-7 win over the Big Spring Lady Steers in District 3-4A action.

Officials: Law to keep vehicles out of yards seems to be working

It has been a busy time for Big Spring’s code enforcement officers.

During their Tuesday meeting, city council members heard a report on the rollout of Big Spring’s new ordinance banning vehicles from unpaved yard areas.

Preparations under way for Pops in the Park

Pops in the Park, Big Spring’s annual Independence Day celebration, is still four months away, but the event’s committee, headed by Kelly Seales, is already hip-deep in preparations.

As usual, Pops will feature patriotic and popular music from the Big Spring Symphony, a salute to military service personnel and veterans and loads of food and refreshments, Seales said. One major change is that the pre-show entertainment will be provided by a local band, AC and the Heaters, headed by Adrian Calvio.

HC tightens purse strings

The decrease in student enrollment has prompted officials with the Howard County Junior College District to tighten up the purse strings.

“This year’s budget is tight just to the fact we have had a decrease in enrollment, which of course means our revenue was down for both our San Angelo budget and the Big Spring budget. Our SWCID (SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf) budget is tracking right on target.” Howard College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks told college trustees Monday.
