PD requests DPS help in accident involving mayor

A Monday accident involving Big Spring Mayor Larry McLellan resulted in a Big Spring man sustaining serious injuries.

Big Spring Police Department officers were dispatched to the intersection of 11th and Scurry shortly after 6 p.m. Monday in reference to a pedestrian-vehicle accident. It was determined that a vehicle driven by McLellan struck Big Spring resident Robert Pullin, 68.

Pullin suffered head injuries in the accident and was flown from the scene by helicopter to Odessa Medical Center, according to a BSPD news release.

College theater department to present ‘Steel Magnolias'

The Howard College Theater Department’s production of “Steel Magnolias” is set to take the stage Thursday night.

“I encourage everyone to come to the play,” said Nathan Jacobs, Howard College theater director. “There is something for everyone to enjoy.”

The production will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hall Center for the Arts, located on the Howard College Campus, 1001 Birdwell Lane. Tickets are $5 and $3 for students with a valid ID. For more information, call Jacobs at 264-5648.

Roberto P. Flores, 78, of Big Spring, died Saturday Oct. 18, 2014, at South Austin Medical Center in Austin, Texas. A vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel, with burial at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Roberto was born in Big Spring on Jan. 31, 1936 to Eulalia (Palomino) and Daniel Flores and was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He worked as a custodian for many years at the Big Spring State Hospital.

Doyce Reed, 89, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

Reta Spradling, 92, of Big Spring, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, in a Midland hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.

Saturday wreck claims Midland man

October 20, 2014

A late Saturday evening accident west of Big Spring claimed the life of a Midland man.

Alfred B. Tochterman III, 34, died from injuries sustained when his pickup collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Clint Faulkner of Big Spring at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 176 five miles east of Lenorah.

Big Spring, Forsan bands earn top rating at marching contest

It proved to be a tough day for bands competing in the UIL Region 6 Marching contest Saturday as judges particular in the Class 2-3A divisions were very sparing in awarding top ratings.

However, Howard County schools fared well for the most part with two earning a Division I rating and a third earning Division II for their marching routines.

Billy Morgan Green, age 85, died Oct. 18, 2014 at Parkview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Big Spring, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas, with Scotte Clark, minister of the Hamilton Street Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
