Officials with the Salvation Army were out Friday evening setting up Angel Trees in hope shoppers will aid in providing a merry Christmas for area children and seniors.

Stephenville ends Steers' season

ABILENE – For Stephenville quarterback Jarrett Stidham, Friday’s playoff matchup with the Big Spring Steers was a chance for a little payback.
In October, Big Spring knocked Stidham out of the game in their first meeting. On Friday, Stidham threw for 277 yards and rushed for 166 and three touchdowns and knocked Big Spring out of the postseason by leading a 59-32 victory in front of a packed crowd at Shotwell Stadium in the third round of the Class 4A Division I regional quarterfinals.
The loss ended a stellar season for the Steers.

Peggy Garner

Peggy Garner, 64, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Covenant Specialty Hospital in Lubbock. Graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Memorial Park’s Chapel.
She was born Aug. 22, 1950, in Big Spring, Texas, to Hazel Eleanor (Stewart) and J.W. Thorp. She married Ron Garner on Feb. 26, 1981, in Big Spring, Texas.
She had been a lifetime resident of Howard County. She was a homemaker but was also a cake decorator and a dog groomer. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

'Boomtown' parade will return to Forsan

FORSAN — Float builders and parade watchers can double their fun Saturday with Christmas in Boomtown in the morning and the Big Spring Herald Lighted Community Christmas Parade that evening.
The Forsan parade — the first in a number of years but an event organizers plan to hold on an annual basis — will begin at 10 a.m. in the Forsan High School cafeteria parking lot.

Salvation Army begins kettle drive

When Salvation Army officials say they help ring in the holiday season, they are being quite literal.
One of the surest of the Christmas season was unveiled Friday with the official start of the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Campaign, complete with bell ringers and holiday music, at the Walmart Supercenter.

Heaters, blankets needed

Many Howard Countians were thankful this week for good food and family. Some, however, were just thankful for the recent warm spell we’ve been experiencing.

The warmer weather won’t last for long, and those who are not prepared will have a tough time of it — without your help.

The Salvation Army is asking the public for heaters, electric blankets, blankets and coats, which will be donated to those who need them the most.

Museum unveils Christmas tree forest

The downstairs lobby of the Heritage Museum has been transformed into a forest of Christmas Trees for the holiday season.

“It’s been an incredible response from the community this year,” said Tammy Schrecengost, museum curator. “We are really excited to have all this participation and interest in both the Christmas Tree Forest and the museum.”

Conrad Byrl Alexander

Former Big Spring resident Conrad Byrl Alexander, 77, of Austin, Texas, passed away at home on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Lamesa, Texas to Vernon and Lela Alexander.

Donna McIntosh, 78, of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Elwin Collom, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, officiating.
