Alice Bell Stevens

Alice Bell Stevens, 96, a former longtime resident of Abilene, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, in Big Spring, Texas.

Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., Alice was the daughter of Edith (Hale) and James Craib. Having lived most of her life in Abilene, she moved in 1994 to Big Spring where she was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Debbs Stevens; one daughter, Alberta Jean Stevens; two grandchildren; her parents and 10 siblings.

Sandra Jones-Roper

Sandra Jones-Roper, 62, of Richardson, formerly of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at her residence. A wake will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Pastor Holston Banks will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Kheltin Jayven Leonard

Kheltin Jayven Leonard, 12-day-old son of Chelsea Ferguson and Justin Leonard, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Methodist Children’s Heart Hospital in San Antonio. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park. Pastor Doug Shelley of East Side Baptist Church will officiate.

He was born Oct. 1, 2014, in Odessa, Texas.

Mildred Douglass

Mildred Douglass, 94, of Big Spring, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at Moore County Hospital in Dumas, Texas. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel. Pastor Lloyd Wells of Spring Creek Fellowship will be officiating.

She was born in Ada, Okla. on March 30, 2014. She came to Big Spring from Sylvester, Texas in 1956. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She is survived by one daughter,Delores Payne of Amarillo; one son, Paul Douglass of Big Spring; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Danny Milam Hobson

Funeral services for Danny Milam Hobson, 62, of Lamesa and Gail, will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Second Baptist Church with Randy Hardman officiating. Interment will follow in Gail Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.

Dale Worthan, 76, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.

DAV to hold annual fund-raiser this weekend

Members of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will be out Friday and Saturday in front of Walmart for the organization’s annual Forget-Me-Not Drive.

“We will be at the front doors beginning at 8 a.m. until late,” said Ed Meiser, DAV Chapter 47 commander. “Members will be accepting donations, and we will be handing out plastic blue, Forget-Me-Not flowers.”

The drive is an annual fund-raiser for the veterans group with the proceeds used to help area veterans, Meiser said.

Jeanine Angela (Craver) Shaw, 53, of Knott, Texas went to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.
She was born March 30, 1961 to Senior Master Sgt. James Ignatius Craver and Shirley May Craver at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock. She graduated from Big Spring High in 1979.

David Trevor Crawford

David Trevor Crawford, age 64, passed away on Oct. 10, 2014. He was born on April 10, 1950, to Mary Elizabeth Reavis Crawford and Trevor Thomas Crawford in Sweetwater, Texas. He was raised in Colorado City, Texas, and graduated from Coahoma High School in 1968. David married his wife of 30 years, Susan Dianne Clark, on Aug. 6, 1972. He was a loving father, son, brother and cousin.

Elton Lee Carlile

Elton Lee Carlile passed away Oct. 13, 2014, after an extended illness. He was born in Wolforth, Texas on June 13, 1927. Elton and his three brothers were raised around the area by their parents, Jimmy and Robert Albert Carlile. He attended school at Friendship, Texas. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served in WWII in the Pacific Theater.
