Farmer’s Market called a success

ELBOW COMMUNTY — It might be understating it a little to say there was some interest in last weekend’s Elbow Creek Hay and Feed Farmer’s Market.

“We had people here at 8 a.m. (The market was scheduled to open at 10 a.m.),” said Nancy Raney, store owner of Elbow Creek Hay and Feed. “It’s incredible. It’s been great and a huge success. We have to do it again, for sure.”

Male suspect fleeing from PD captured

July 22, 2014

A man was in police custody this morning after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase beginning on Interstate 20 early today.

Forty-six-year-old Jesse Rodriguez Lopez is being held on charges of evading police in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and parole violation.

James Turner, 86, of Big Spring, died Sunday July 20, 2014, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Westlawn Cemetery in Borger, Texas.

He was born Dec. 17, 1927, to Peggy and Roy Lee Turner in Shamrock, Texas. He married Laura Martin on Nov. 14, 1954, in Corinth, Miss. He served 10 years in the United States Navy. He came to Big Spring in 2011. Before coming to Big Spring, he lived in Lubbock from 1981 to 2011.

Cactus and Crude makes trek through Big Spring

July 21, 2014

Cactus and Crude cyclists make their way through Big Spring Saturday to complete the first leg of the 150-mile route. They ended their 75.1 mile trek at SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf and continued on their way to Post Sunday. The annual event raises money for multiple sclerosis research. The cyclists began their journey from the North Financial Building in Midland.

Emergency crews help make movie come to life

July 21, 2014

Big Spring Fire Department and Air Evac hosted a special event for the premiere of the new animated film, "Planes — Search and Rescue" on Sunday.
Since the film deals with themes such as protecting people and fighting fires, the local emergency services came together to bring it to life.

Elderly assault victim remains in serious condition

July 19, 2014

An elderly Big Spring woman remains in serious but stable condition in an Odessa hospital after she was robbed, sexually assaulted, stabbed and left for dead on the side of a road early Thursday.

Big Spring police and Texas Rangers are looking for the suspect, described only as a 5-foot, 7-inch to 6-foot Hispanic male who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt at the time.

Authorities searching for robbery suspect

Big Spring police are asking for citizens’ help in apprehending an armed robbery suspect.

Big Spring Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Everett said officers are searching for man who allegedly robbed clerks at the Fast Stop convenience store at gunpoint Thursday afternoon.

Valentin Corralez

July 19, 2014

Valentin Corralez, 76, of Big Spring, died Thursday July 17, 2014, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial following at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

He was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Cuchillo Parado, Chihuahua Mexico. He was a Catholic. He had worked for Clay and Lee Harris and more recently at Shroyer Motor Company. He married Margarita Mora in 1977.

Kenneth (Ken) Ray Large

Kenneth (Ken) Ray Large passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, while surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ken was born Aug. 14, 1932 to Obie and Cora Large in Leakey, Texas.
