Time is running out for area residents looking to take advantage of the annual AARP Tax-Aide program, as the April 18 deadline to file looms on the horizon.
Many area taxpayers were unable to get a jump on their filings efforts this year because of an Internal Revenue Service glitch that prevented those filing itemized returns from filing until February. However, the wait could pay off for some area residents.
Ronald M. Jett, 57, of Big Spring, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Nolan County from injuries received in a vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Charles Atkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
C. Roy Wright died Feb. 1, 2011, in Rogers, Ark. A celebration service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Big Lake Fire Department in Big Lake.

FORSAN — The Forsan Buffaloes broke out the lumber to claim their second district victory of the 2011 baseball season, pounding Denver City 16-8 at the FHS field Friday afternoon.
The Buffs spotted Denver City an early 2-1 lead, but came roaring back in the middle innings to put the game out of reach.
Peyton Parker pitched five innings to earn the win, with relief help from Trevor Burchett.
The Big Spring Lady Steers had no shortage of opponents Friday night.
For starters, there was the visiting Sweetwater Lady Mustangs, who spotted the Lady Steers a six-run lead, then came roaring back with six runs of their own.
Then, there was the Lady Steers themselves, who gave the Sweetwater rally a helping hand with ineffective pitching and two three errors.
Finally, there was Mother Nature, who proved to be the toughest opponent of the night.
March 18th
COLORADO CITY — Billie Dunn, mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn, was booked into the Mitchell County Jail on Thursday on misdemeanor charges for obstruction of justice and possession of drugs.
Dunn was taken into custody by authorities at her Colorado City home Thursday evening on charges of hindering apprehension and prosecution, possession of dangerous drugs and making a false report to police officers. All three charges are misdemeanors.
A Howard County grand jury returned 16 indictments Thursday, including a number of true-bills for narcotics charges.
Among those indicted were:
• Darrell David Brown, 38, of Midland, possession of a controlled substance (state jail felony).
• Allysia Dawn Heckart, 29, of Odessa, possession of a controlled substance (state jail felony).
• David Wayne Crow, 23, of 617 S. McEwen, possession of marijuana (state jail felony).
• Pierre Jean Gordon, 20, of 806 Ohio, possession of a controlled substance (third-degree felony).
Job fairs, chamber gatherings and golf tournaments are on tap for the next couple months.
Upcoming events and other business highlighted the agenda of the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce monthly board meeting Wednesday.
GEO will be presenting a job fair at the workforce center March 22 and 23. Next month, April 19, SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf will be holding its community wide job fair as well. The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• BOBBY JOE LOPEZ, 25, of 1701 S. Runnels, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and assault – recklessly impeding breathing or circulation.
• STEPHEN CRUZ, 32, of 1707 Donley, was arrested Thursday on warrants for failure to control speed and failure to appear.
• LAPAUL ERIC SCAGGS, 34, 510 S. Benton, was arrested thursday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury – family violence.
