Early balloting in the May 12 municipal and school district elections begins Monday with a proposed multi-million dollar 4B project expected to be a driving force in voter turnout.
Early voting will take place in the Elections Administration Office â located on the third floor of the Howard County Courthouse â between Monday and May 8, according to Saundra Bloom, county elections administrator.
Normal voting hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with special 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. extended hours scheduled Tuesday and Thursday.
Big Spring independent School District officials have announced registration times for parents wishing to enroll their children in 2012-2013 pre-kindergarten classes.
Pre3-K registration will be held from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Goliad Intermediate School return, will be required.
â¢ The family is homeless.
â¢ Parent is a member of the U.S. armed forces (military identification will be required).
â¢ The child has been in foster care.
The following documents will be required at registration:
â¢ Official birth certificate.
â¢ Immunization records.
â¢ Childâs Social Security card.
Walter and Jean McCaig Gleason celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary April 26, 2012.
The couple was married â in the brideâs hometown â April 26, 1952, at St. Maryâs Church in Widnes, England.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with a dinner given by their daughters Saturday, April 28, 2012 at KCâs Steak House. They were joined by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all shared lots of laughter.
The Gleasons have three daughters, Joanne Sayles and husband Ron of Big Spring; Susan Williams and husband George of Big Spring; Sandra Crockett and husband Don of Midland.
Krista LaDawn Blagrave of Ackerly and Clayton John Anderson of Gail exchanged wedding vows April 14, 2012. The couple exchanged vows at Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock at a 5 p.m. ceremony. Larry Marshall of Garland officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Stan and Carla Blagrave of Ackerly. She is the granddaughter of Richard and Jean Parker of Knott and Derwood and Joan Blagrave of Ackerly.
The groom is the son of John and Kevva Anderson of Gail. He is the grandson of Rich and Barbara Anderson of Gail and Wilella Tucker of Vealmoor and the late Sonny Tucker.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
â¢ ADAN CHAVERA, 42, of 600 Holbert, was arrested Friday on warrants for theft less than $50, failed to maintain financial responsibility, fail to appear.
â¢ LORI ANN WRIGHT, 48, of 312 N. Main St., was arrested Friday on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ GUADALUPE JR. LOMAS JR., 40, of 1405 Nolan St., was arrested on warrants for failed to maintain financial responsibility and fail to appear.
Milton James Junek, 85, of Big Spring, died Friday, April 27, 2012, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Cavanaugh officiating.
Family and friends are invited to a reception to visit and tell stories at the funeral home following the services.
He was born June 1, 1926, in Cameron, Texas, and married Emma Clara Kernell on Feb. 16, 1964, in Lovington, N. M. She preceded him in death Dec. 13, 2007.
Bettie Wilcox, 74, of Lake Thomas, died April 26, 2012, at her residence. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gail Cemetery with Chaplain Cherise Felty of Home Hospice officiating.
She was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Cordell, Okla. She married Wayne Wilcox on June 2, 1973, in New Mexico. She was a homemaker and has lived at Lake Thomas since 1979.

â¢ MARIO RODRIGUEZ, 33, of Winters, Texas, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ RICKY RICARDO LOPEZ, 22, of 601 Caylor Dr., was arrested Thursday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
Tack another thing to do on your list this weekend. Dee's Trade Show is returning to the Howard County Fairbarn Saturday and Sunday. Doors will open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday.
âThere will once again be unique items as well as homemade items,â Denise McComb, co-founder of Dee's Trade Show, said.
Unfortunately, child abuse is an everyday occurrence, even in West Texas.
A World for Children partnered Wednesday with CASA of West Texas to hold a balloon release and awareness event on the courthouse lawn.
âThis is one of the ways we can promote awareness and allow the community to become more involved,â Tracy Fryar, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program director, said.
