A Big Spring man was killed and two others injured in an early morning one-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. Highway 87 just a few hundred feet south of the city limits, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
William Jessie Berry, 23, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Howard County Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman at approximately 2 a.m., according to communication officials with the Regional DPS Office in Midland, Texas.
DPS officials verified next of kin had been notified at the time of this report.
Construction of Big Spring's new elementary schools is reaching its final, furiously paced stages.
During their Thursday meeting, Big Spring Independent School District trustees learned that three of the four new elementary campuses are â€śessentiallyâ€ť complete, while construction crews have adopted an â€śall hands on deckâ€ť approach to getting the fourth school ready for the start of the new school year.

â€˘ JESSE TONY REYES JR., 25, of 1006 S. Goliad, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from other agency.
â€˘ AUDREY LANE SHERRILL, 28, of 1007 S. Nolan St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of criminal mischief impair/interrupt/divert public water.
â€˘ RYAN LYLE BLAKE, 30, of 1207 Settles St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant from other agency.
â€˘ MICHAEL DEAN NALL, 33, of 1605 Sunset Ave., was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana less than or equal to two ounces.
A.D. â€śDennisâ€ť Greenfield, 77, of Sand Springs died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2012, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Coahoma Church of Christ with Eddy Pitchford and Pete Hanks officiating. Burial will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.
He was born July 30, 1934, in Dunn, Texas, to Ruby and Herman Greenfield. He graduated from Colorado City High School in 1953. He married Willie Mae Robertson on June 30, 1953.
George C. â€śBuddyâ€ť Clinton Sr., 85, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, in Sonora, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Chaplain Jim Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born April 30, 1927, in Haskell, Texas, to Katherine and Robert Clinton. He moved to Howard County in 1939 from Haskell. He married Gladys Collier on June 7, 1947, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death April 12, 2005.
Roland and Sara (Wood) Fryar of Big Spring celebrated their 50th anniversary July 13, 2012.
The couple will celebrate their milestone anniversary with their family in Fredricksburg.
The couple's children include: Rebecca Mattingly and husband Steven of Big Spring, Lisa Fryar of Big Spring and Jay Fryar and wife Michelle of Big Spring. Grandchildren are Candice Rea and husband Brian of Lubbock, Michael Jackman of Big Spring and Ryleigh Fryar of Big Spring and two great-grandchildren.
A group of area residents are hot under the collar, and it has nothing to do with summertime temperatures.
About 15 people dissatisfied with their property tax bills aired their grievances at Wednesday's meeting of the Howard County Appraisal District board of directors.
The group voiced a variety of complaints, ranging from their belief their valuations were too high to their confusion over how property assessments are reached.
A Big Spring man found guilty of intoxication assault in 118th District Court was sentenced to four years in state jail Wednesday.
Wesley James Shoup, 44, of 800 W. Marcy No. 22 or 4016 Vicky, was indicted April 12, 2012, by a Howard County grand jury on a third-degree felony charge of intoxication assault.
