Patricia T. Smith (Punkin Sawyers), 57, of Midland, passed away Dec. 22, 2010, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Kelview Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Berry, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Garden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Local shoppers aren't necessarily buying more this Christmas, but they appear to be shopping at home, which has Big Spring retailers happy.
An informal survey of several local businesses shows an increase in holiday sales over last year. While several businessmen declined comment, citing company policy, others said it appears that Howard County residents are shopping Big Spring first.
The world-famous Harlem Ambassadors basketball squad will be coming to the Crossroads area in February, part of a community project the Big Spring Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is putting together for area children.
According to Sonnet Hildebrand, director of the local Boys and Girls Club, the Ambassadors are slated to perform Feb. 23, but before the first slam dunk can be driven home, her and her staff will have to raise funds for the project.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• HENRY JOHN RAYMOND, 37, of 1905 Wasson Rd., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• MARK TIMOTHY STANLEY, 49, of 1800 S. Lancaster, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of criminal trespass.
• RAYMOND JOSEPH BONNER, 29, of San Angelo, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license invalid – DWI related.
• LETISHA KAY MENDEZ, 29, of 1905 Wasson Rd. Apt. 25, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid – no insurance.
William "Bill" J. Jackson, 93, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, in a Midland hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Doris Vieregge, 68, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, in a Midland hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Bonnie McNeese, 84, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, in a Lubbock hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Law enforcement officials are remaining tight-lipped regarding an investigation into what may be a human skull discovered Monday morning at a location in northern Howard County.
A press release issued by the Howard County Sheriff's Office Monday morning advised law enforcement officials were called to the scene around 11 a.m. at an undisclosed location in northern Howard County after what appears to be a piece of a human skull was found.
Santa and his entourage — reindeer and elves — encourage Texans to have fun through the holidays. But, you better look out because he won’t be the only one watching.
The Texas Department of Transportation will partner with law enforcement across the state to communicate important travel messages to keep citizens safe through the holidays. And, law enforcement will be working overtime to find and arrest folks who drive impaired.
TxDOT says follow some simple travel tips to make sure you arrive safely, and for goodness sake, don’t drink and drive.

• HUTTON TAYLOR EVANS, 19, of 3103 Mountain Shadow, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.
