Ulysses Mathews Jr., 55, of Big Spring died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Splishin' and a splashin' will be taking place at 5, 6 and 10 Under West Texas Skies.
The Big Spring Family Aquatic Center will be the setting for the 2012 Newswest 9 Under West Texas Skies wrap up. The events are set to start at 4 p.m. Friday 20 and continue until 10 p.m.
â€śFor the past several years, we have been the last stop on the week-long journey and this year we are wrapping things up on the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts,â€ť Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbye ValVerde said.

That is the call from those wanting to start a Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter in the Big Spring area. Fundraisers are getting underway, with hopes of being able to bring the mentor program to the area. The first fundraiser â€”community garage sale â€” will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene.

â€˘ SANTIAGO GOMEZ GALINDO, 25, of Midland, Texas, was arrested Sunday, on charges of hindering officers discharging official duties and failure to identify.
â€˘ ROSARIO CABRERA SANCHEZ, 55, of Odessa, Texas, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
â€˘ ROBERT GARDNER LYNCH JR., 51, of 300 Veterans Blvd, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
The school that looks like it was â€śbuilt inside a bowlâ€ť passed a major test last week.
Because of costs and other factors, the new Goliad Elementary building, located at the intersection of 18th and Goliad, was built below street level. However, this raised concerns from some local residents about how water-tight the school would be in case of heavy rains.

U.S. Hang gliding and Paragliding Competition is returning to Big Spring for another year at the McMahon-Wrinkle Airport July 22 through July 28.
â€śWe are doing it again,â€ť Airpark Director Jim Little said. â€śWe have hosted the national and worldwide competition here before and this year we are hosting the national competition again.â€ť

â€˘ JIMMY NOEL ANTUNES, 25, transient, was arrested Friday on a charge of criminal trespass.
â€˘ GUADALUPE HINOJOS, 38, of 100 N.W. Third St., was arrested Friday on a warrant for criminal mischief.
Jessie (Tripp) Berry, 23, of Big Spring, died Friday, July 13, 2012 in Big Spring. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Spring Creek Fellowship with Derrick Looney officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born Jan. 28, 1989 in Stanton, Texas, to Carla and Melvin Berry. He was been a lifetime resident of Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School in 2007. He had worked at Dominoes and in the oilfield.
Norma Lee, 86, of Bedford, formerly of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 12, 2012.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Euless.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Lee; son, Bob Lee; and her brothers, Don and Bob Hipp.
