GARDEN CITY â Garden City head coach Vance Jones remembers the last time his Bearkats lost vividly.
It was to Throckmorton in the beginning of the 2009 season and Jones remembers his players naturally being upset.
More good than harm came from that loss, though.
âThat loss was probably our motivation to work harder to get to play them again,â Jones said. âAfter the game, they said âCoach, we can beat them.â They worked hard and that was the driving engine that helped us get to that point and once we beat them, we said âHey, maybe we have a shot to go all the way.â

Officials with the Big Spring Salvation Army say donations to the local charity's annual Angel Tree program are trickling in at an alarmingly slow rate with just days before the holiday effort meets its deadline.
Bessie Flores, newly appointed social worker for the Salvation Army â taking over for longtime social worker Paula Lafler, who has been sidelined with health problems â said the lack of Christmas gifts donated for the annual effort has her very concerned.
Parents of small children who want to get some Christmas shopping done without having to tote their tykes around may have a way out of their dilemma Saturday â Howard College will babysit your little one.
And you'll be supporting a good cause, to boot.
The college's Student Government Association will offer the event, called âA Night Without Your Little Smiles,â from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum. Cost is $25 per child, said Marcia McNew, SGA advisior at HC.
Local comedy troupe Goondock Saints will be holding auditions Saturday at the Comanche Trail Park Amphitheater in preparation for an Austin performance slated for late January.
According to troupe spokesman Clay Vickers, the local comedy group is slated to perform at The Hideout Theater in Austin on Jan. 28, but the company of comedians is in need of other funny men and women to help round out the show.
Big Spring guard Luke Adams wasnât fully aware how big his performance against Odessa Permian was on Nov. 19. Forty-two points was far from where he thought he finished.
âI really didnât,â the senior said. âThatâs the crazy thing about it. I didnât even know how many. I probably thought I had 20, maybe 25.
âI guess when youâre playing to win, you donât really care about points. You just care whatâs on that scoreboard.â
Maybe itâs that mindset that has opponents taking notice of Adams.
