Two more arrested in drug sweep

Investigators with the Big Spring Police Department Narcotics Division made two more arrests Thursday afternoon, bringing this week's total to 19 collars since local, state and federal law enforcement agencies began rounding up alleged traffickers earlier this week.

Dijuan Ausbie, 23, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Also arrested was Tina Ausbie, 24, who was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• THOMAS RAY CAMARILLO, 38, of 413 S. Fifth St. in Coahoma, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• STEVEN VALENCIA GAMBOA, 28, of 506 N. Nolan, was arrested Thursday on charges of public intoxication and expired registration.
• JULIAN JAY TORRES, 18, of 500.5 N.W. Seventh St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Ramon C. Montez, 91, of Fort Worth passed away Dec. 15, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 5550 E. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth, Texas, with rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at Lucas Sylvania Funeral Chapel.

Ramon was born in Ruidosa, Presidio County, on Jan. 25, 1920, the son of Dionicio “Nieho” Montez and Isabel Canava. When he was very young, his mother brought him to Marfa, where he spent most of his young life with his mother and later his grandmother, Ros Quintana.

Mona Faye Tinsley Walker Holman

Mona Faye Tinsley Walker Holman, 82, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Christus-Schumpert Highland Hospital in Shreveeport, La., following a short illness. Funeral services will be held ft the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, La., on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Shelby Cowling officiating. Interment will follow at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville, La. The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Jacqueline Ann Martin Durham (Christi)

Jacqueline Ann Martin Durham (Christi), age 50, of Grandview, Tenn., died at her home on Dec. 1, 2011, after a 13-year battle with cancer. Services were held Dec. 4, 2011, in Crossville, Tenn.

Christi was born to Harold C. Martin and Jacqueline Martin “Bitsy” on Jan. 24, 1961, in Big Spring, Texas. She attended Big Spring High School, and later moved to Midland, Texas, where she met her husband, Bobby Durham. The two later moved to Grandview, Tenn.

Christi worked at Lazy Boy for several years.

Bill Bennett, 80, of Big Spring, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Drug sweep results in 15 arrests

More than a dozen arrests were made Wednesday during a drug sweep carried out through Big Spring by local, state and federal law enforcement officers, which also netted a large quantity of drugs and cash.

Those arrested include:

• Laquanthus Lamar Randall, 21, of 2524 Hunter, possession of a controlled substance – probation revocation.
• Ruby G. Hernandez, 28, of 1401 Dixie, delivery of marijuana.
• Brian Christopher Lewis, 27, of 505 Young St., delivery of a controlled substance.
• John Allen Silen, 20, of 3224 Cornell, manufacture/delivery of a simulated controlled substance.

Child brightens soldiers' holidays

When little Celestina Vela decided to spread some Christmas cheer, she didn't mess around.

Celestina, a 6-year-old first-grader at Bauer Elementary, was so moved by the plight of soldiers who will have to spend Christmas away from home that she decided to do something to cheer them up.

So she sent them Christmas cards — lots and lots of Christmas cards.
Over the course of a few weeks, Celestina and her family collected more than 1,000 holiday greeting cards to send to U.S. military personnel serving overseas.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• JONATHAN MICHAELS SHORTEN, 24, of Houston, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency and a warrant for hindering officers discharging official duties.
• CLARISSA DEAN, 32, of 2609 Wasson Rd. Apt. 2, was arrested Wednesday on six warrants from other agencies.
• JESSEE CASTUITO DELEON JR., 43, of 1705 Highway 176, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Curtis Brunson

Curtis Brunson, 53, of Lubbock, Texas, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at his residence. A come-and-go memorial will be held from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the Brunson home at 3606 Hamilton in Big Spring.
Curtis was born Aug. 8, 1958, in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School. He attended Howard College School of Nursing and later earned his registered nursing degree. He was working as a trauma nurse in Lubbock. He was a Christian.
