While dates and deadlines for the political party primaries leading up to the November election remain up in the air thanks to ongoing litigation, Howard County elections officials said the delays will have no effect on municipal and school board elections slated for May 12.
Howard County Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom said the deadline to register to vote in the municipal and school board races is April 12.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ GILBERT RECIO, 38, of 1007 Wood, was arrested Monday on charges of driving while intoxicated â€“ second offense, open container in a motor vehicle â€“ driver and driving while license invalid.
â€¢ GABRIEL JESSIE HERNANDEZ, 25, of 1102 Lloyd, was arrested Monday on warrants for child passenger without safety seat system and driving while license invalid.
â€¢ DEVIN ALLEN BUCK, 18, of 1425 E. Sixth St. Apt. 28, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.
Our beloved mother and grandmother answered her final trumpet call on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the age of 86. She has gone home to be with our Heavenly Father, and to rejoice with family who has gone before her.
Emma Dean Baggett, 101, formerly of Big Spring and mother of James Michael Baggett and Janice B. Deats, died Feb. 15, 2012, at the Pine Harbour Assisted Living Facility in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Baggett.
Born April 1, 1910, in Decatur, Texas, Emma taught kindergarten and trained kindergarten teachers for 30 years at First United Methodist Church in Big Spring. She also served as secretary to Dr. Anthony Hunt, former president of Howard College.
Big Spring High School Softball Coach John Sparks got a first look at his full-strength squad Monday night, and liked most of what he saw.
For sure, he enjoyed the outcome.
Terra Keeney stroked a RBI double with two outs in the eighth inning to give Big Spring a 7-6 victory over Coahoma in non-district action Monday at the Lady Steer Softball Complex.

ODESSA â€” The Howard College men's basketball team apparently decided it had had enough last-minute drama for now.
The Hawks, who came into Monday's Western Junior College Athletic Conference game with Odessa fresh off two nail-biting wins, watched the Wranglers rally to take the lead with seven minutes remaining.
Rather than watch this game go down to the wire, however, the Hawks responded with a closing run that gave them a somewhat comfortable 69-59 victory at the OC Sports Center.

If you have unresolved warrants in the Crossroads area, you have plenty to fear this week and next, as law enforcement agencies in Howard County and the surrounding areas get ready to conduct a warrant roundup Saturday.
Part of a statewide effort to help municipalities and other government agencies tackle the growing number of arrest warrants being issued, Big Spring Municipal Judge Tim Green said every effort has been made to contact those with warrants and get the matters cleared up before the handcuffs get slapped on.
Juanita Marquez, 86, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Bertram Warner, 91, of Big Spring died Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.
