Martha Grant

Martha Grant, 86, of Big Spring, formerly of Fort Worth died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date at D.F.W. National Cemetery.

She was born May 31, 1925, in Forth Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, to Ella (McCaskill) Lusk and John Franklin Lusk. She married Forrest Grey Grant Jr. on May 16, 1947. He preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1997.

TULIA — Elida “Lillie” Granado, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Amarillo. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev. Marcos Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the funeral home.

Ramona M. Tijerina, 62, of Big Spring died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Hospice Inpatient Unit of Midland. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Doug Shelley and the Rev. Jeff Davison officiating. Burial will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.

Jackie Faye Bowden, 78, of Big Spring died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at the funeral home.

Jackie was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Lubbock, Texas, to Tom and Opal Williams. She married Horace Bowden on Feb. 24, 1956. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother and a member of Midway Baptist Church.

Don W. Williams, 67, of Big Spring died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. David Robertson and the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 15, 1944, in Loraine, Texas, and married Elizabeth Pickett on March 11, 1967, in Stanton, Texas.

Lady Steers win tournament

Logan Yarbar drained 13 points in the championship game and the Big Spring Lady Steers came back totown this weekend with a 63-26 win over Kermit and the tournament championship.

Big Spring went 4-0 in the tournament, with Bridgett Tuitt receiving All-Tournament honors and Mackenzie Stone taking the 3-point shootout championship for the Lady Steers.

Council faces routine agenda Tuesday

The Big Spring City Council is expected to approve final reading of a resolution streamlining the way the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation will deliver its quarterly reports to the governing body during its meeting Tuesday evening.

Under the existing requirements, the Big Spring EDC Board of Directors are required to meet with the city council during their quarterly meetings, according to EDC Director Terry Wegman.

Fifteen years and going strong.

The Festival of Lights at Comanche Trail Park will be turned on again starting Thursday and stay lit until Dec. 31.

“This all started as I was riding on a float in the parade one year and a lady asked me why they don’t light up the park,” Festival of Lights founder Pat Simmons said. “I don’t know who they are, but I told her I would look into it.”
