Michael Sam's second chance will be with the Dallas Cowboys. Coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that the league's first openly gay player will be added to the practice roster. (Sept. 3)
Five individuals, including one considered armed and dangerous, were apprehended early this morning as officers executed a search warrant at 713 Lorilla.
The Big Spring Police Department and Howard County Sheriffâs Office SWAT team participated in the search warrant, which was the result of an investigation conducted by the BSPD narcotics unit. According to a press release, police had âreceived information of drug sales and the probable location of Theodore Rios,â who was wanted for parole violation and considered armed and dangerous.
The Big Spring City Council will present the first of two public hearings on the proposed FY 2015 tax rate when they hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in council chambers, 307 E. Fourth.
The council was supposed to have held a public hearing on the new rate last week, but a software error at the tax appraisal district resulted in incorrect information being relayed to the various taxing entities in Howard County.

Winnie Bobo Dodson, 74, of Coahoma, died Monday, Sept.1, 2014, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Coahoma with Pastor Elwin Collum, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Pastor Mark Winn, pastor of First Baptist Church of Coahoma, officiating. Burial will follow in Coahoma Cemetery.
Undine Kernodle, 86, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
There is still time to register for the seventh annual Comanche Warrior Triathlon, set for Saturday at Comanche Trail Lake.
The event, which will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, consists of a 500-meter swim, an 18-mile bicycle ride and a 3-mile run, event organizer Hayley Lewis said.

Forced by a software glitch to reshuffle their tax rate and budget adoption schedules, the city of Big Spring and Howard County will hold several public hearings to give area residents a chance to provide their input.

Erlinda Flores, 86, of Big Spring, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Erlinda was born March 10, 1928, in Chichimequilla, Zacatecas.
She was a devoted Catholic and loved gardening and raising her children and grandchildren.
Beverly Strickland, 64, of Stanton, Texas died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, in a Midland hospital. Graveside services was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Beverly was born Oct. 29, 1949, in Odessa and married Danny Strickland, May 8, 1969, in Midland. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for more than 30 years.
She is survived by her husband, Danny Strickland; one son, Donny Strickland and wife, Vicki; one daughter, Loree Strickland; and four grandchildren.
