The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• ASHLEY NICOLE PARNELL, 26, of 1700 S. Johnson, was arrested Saturday on warrants for failure to tield right-of-way at stop intersection and bail jumping – failure to appear.
• FRANLIN JOHN SUAZO, 20, of 1309 Jeffery, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol by a minor.
• GREGORY TURNBOW, 51, of 4100 block of S. Highway 87 Apt. 91, was arrested Saturday on a charge of public intoxication.

Jan Fields McKaskle

A service to celebrate the 69 years of Jan Fields McKaskle's life was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd St. in Lubbock. It was followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas. Mrs. McKaskle died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.

Benito 'Benny' Rodriguez

Benito “Benny” Rodriguez, 44, of Big Spring died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Midland Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Reynaldo Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

Clara Puga, 82, of Big Spring, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at her residence. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

• ANDREW STEVENS BAILON, 20, of 2703 Carol, was arrested Friday on warrants for consumption of alcohol by a minor and failure to appear.
• ALESHA KAY PACE, 36, of Sweetwater, was arrested Friday on warrants from other agencies (two)

GCHS names queen, Mr. Bearkat

Britni Cook was named 2011 Garden City High School Homecoming Queen earlier this month while Reggie Halfmann was named Mr. Bearkat. Both are seniors.

Wife of murder suspect arrested

The wife of a suspect charged with murder in the May 21 shooting of a Lamesa man is in custody, according to local law enforcement officials.
Rosalina Garcia, wife of 30-year-old murder suspect Jose Americo Garcia, was taken into custody by investigators with the Texas Rangers Wednesday in Lamesa, nearly a month after fleeing the United States to Mexico with her husband and two children.
According to unofficial reports, Rosalinda Garcia has confirmed what law enforcement officials have feared since the arrest warrant was issued May 21: Jose Garcia is currently in Mexico.

150 turn out for Alzheimer's walk

Putting one foot in front of the other is the only way to reach a goal and Alzheimer's Association members took it literally as they held their 13th Walk to End Alzheimer's — formerly known as the Memory Walk — Saturday morning at Comanche Trail Park.
“This year, we changed the name, have new signage and are emphasizing how we are walking for a cause and that there is so much more hope with all the new advancements,” said Debbie Erdwurm, Alzheimer's Association regional director.

Float Fly going on at Comanche Trail Lake

A little bit of floating and lot of flying is taking place at the Comanche Trail Lake.
Saturday morning, members of the Big Spring Model Aircraft Association took their planes out to the lake in anticipation of having some fun. This weekend was the 18th Annual Don McKinney Memorial Float Fly.
“This is a great way for us to generate interest in the community and possibly gain some new members,” said John Womack, vice president of BSMAA.
