Norma Jean Abundez and Rick Cantu, both of Mission, announce their engagement.
Norma is the daughter of Paul and Bonnie Abundez of Big Spring. She is a 2003 graduate of Mission High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of Texas Pan American. She is currently employed as a middle school teacher.
Rick is the son of Eleazar and Maria A. Cantu, of General Bravo, Nuevo Leon. He is a 2001 graduate of Mission High School. He is employed by Geek Squad at Best Buy in McAllen.
The couple plans to exchange wedding vows June 25, 2011 in Mission.
Mike and Sonya Hernandez announce the arrival of their baby boy, Michael Arnulfo Shane Hernandez.
Michael was born Feb. 17, 2011 at 2:25 p.m. He weighed seven pounds one ounce and was 19 inches long.
His maternal grandparents are the late Rebecca Cannon of Big Spring and the late Harold Lee Hancock â Beckley of West Virginia. His paternal grandparents are Shorty and Emma Hernandez of Coahoma.
He was welcomed home by siblings Stevi Faye Madry and Mia Jean Hernandez.

Billy Minchew, 79, of Big Spring died Sunday, March 20, 2011, in a Midland hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.
Mr. Minchew was born March 16, 1932, in Coahoma and married June Hightower on Nov. 5, 1956, in Lovington, N.M.
CLYDE â Beulah Minerva (Aunt Beulah) Fiaminghi, 99, of Abilene, died Thursday at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Evangelical United Methodist Church, 6010 Hwy. 277 in Abilene with Brother Jerry McNeill, Brother Ronnie Newton and Brother Don Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
A one-vehicle rollover on Interstate 20 west of Big Spring left one person dead and sent three others to the hospital.
According to Department of Public Safety reports, 20-year-old Brianca Marie Beltran of El Paso was pronounced dead following the accident, which took place shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday near FM 818. She was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
After being arrested Friday on charges of hindering police investigators and possession of drugs, Billie Dunn â mother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn â has filed a protective order against former live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins.
Dunn made the announcement she had filed a âno trespassingâ order against Adkins shortly after being released from custody following her arrest on charges of hindering apprehension and prosecution, possession of dangerous drugs and making a false report to police officers. All three charges are misdemeanors.
The possible fate of the Big Spring State Park tops the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Big Spring City Council, as the municipality â along with members of county government â attempt to formulate a plan to keep the facility open in the face of massive budget cuts by the state legislature.
The council is expected to discuss ongoing efforts by both the municipality and Howard County officials to keep the park from being closed, as well as appoint a committee to evaluate the issues involved in the matter.
