Lee Samuel "Sam" Burns, 82, of Houston died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, in a Houston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Ackerly with the Rev. Ray McMorris, pastor, and Derrick Looney, pastor of Forsan Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Ackerly Cemetery.

A Big Spring man was arrested late last week on a charge of injury to a child â€“ serious bodily injury after a 2-year-old victim was taken to the emergency room at Scenic Mountain Medical Center with a broken leg.
Joseph Contreras, 20, was arrested Friday at a relative's home in the 1600 block of Virginia after officials with the SMMC emergency room became suspicious of the child's injuries and called law enforcement officers.
The trial date for a Big Spring man accused of possessing a â€śrape kitâ€ť with intent to commit aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault has been set for mid-January, according to officials with the 385th District Court in Midland.
Juan Jose Guerra, 49, of 1 Courtney Place, was arrested April 28 in Midland after law enforcement officials were notified the suspect was acting suspicious. According to officials, the area in which Guerra was arrested â€” the 1500 block of Idlewild â€” is frequented by children, with several dance and gymnastics academies nearby.

Lying on its side, the brownish gray bird struggled to pull itself toward the grassy median.Â Turbulence created by passing motorists sprayed fine bits of gravel and dust over its feathers and into its eyes. After reaching the edge of the asphalt, it could go no further.Â
Resting after such an effort, it did not hear the vehicle stop some distance behind it.
