Dorothy Ellen Stripling, 81, of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Ivins, the Rev. Keith Wiseman and the Rev. Sharon Wiese officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Peter Kim "P.K." Barnes, 62, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, in Mitchell County. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
Nita Jayne Jones Ellison, 58, of Big Spring died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the the Rev. Craig Wascom officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
John W. Ray, 84, of Big Spring died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Pat Ray officiating.
The Lady Steers were back on the court in this weekend, participating in the annual tournament in Granbury. The Big Spring representatives went 2-2 Friday and then 1-1 Saturday, putting any hopes of bring hardware home out of their reach.
Big Spring fell to Grace Prep by scores of 24-26 and 15-25. Cerbi Ritchey and Morgan Seaton each had seven assists for Big Spring and combined for eight digs, 12 kills and 1 block.
Under a clear sky and the watchful eyes of the Fort Stockton coaching staff, the Big Spring Steers put up an impressive display Friday night at Memorial Stadium during their last scrimmage game of the 2011 campaign.
Big Spring sixth-graders are moving up in the world.
Of all the changes that will take place at Big Spring Independent School District this school year — which begins Monday — the one that gains the most notice is all the construction projects going on at campus sites around town. But another change, this one not quite as noticeable, is the addition of sixth-graders to the junior high school population.
United Way of Big Spring and Howard County announced its goal for the 2012 campaign Saturday night at the Boots and Bling event held at the Big Spring Country Club.
This year the 23-member-board is aiming to reach a goal of $275,000. Last year the goal was set at $250,000 and, through the help of board members and contributions from the community, was surpassed.

â€¢ EDUARDO RAMIREZ GALLARDO, 51, of 806 Ohio, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while intoxicated (open container) â€“ third or more offense.
â€¢ STEVEN RANDEL O'BRIEN, 49, of 2606 Hunter, was arrested Saturday on a charge of terroristic threats.
â€¢ ARL A. LINGER, 63, of New Mexico, was arrested Saturday on a charge of criminal trespass.
â€¢ SAMMY FERRELL, 49, of 509 N. Johnson, was arrested Saturday on a charge of public intoxication.
