The Steers cross country team represented Big Spring this week at the Regional Meet,with the boys finishing in ninth place overall and the girls crossing the line at 13th place.
Gustavo Lugo led the way for the boys, claiming the fifth spot overall with a time of 16:20.20. Right behind Lugo, in sixth place, was Thomas King. The Big Spring sophomore posted a time of 16:33.70.
Mike Williams finished in 31st place, Nathan Jimenez came in 84th, Mason Ford crossed the line in 94th and Joshua Means ranked in at the 130th spot.
Jack Mitchell, 81, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Geraldine â€śGeriâ€ť Lopez, 63, of Big Spring died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home with a vigil to be held at 7 p.m. Memorial mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Antonio Guzman Gonzalez, 69, of Big Spring died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at his residence. No local services are planned. Interment will take place at the Cemeterio Municipal in Irapuato, Mexico.
Antonio was born June 26, 1942, in San Diego de la Union, Guanajuato, Mexico, and married Maria Guzman on March 18, 1976.
Antonio moved to the United States in 1976 and then to Big Spring in 1986. He worked in both the oilfield and cotton fields of West Texas.
Carolyn Touchstone Walker, 65, of Snyder, formerly of Big Spring died Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, in a Plano hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born Oct. 5, 1946, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Charles Sam Walker on April 6, 1996, in New Mexico.
Carolyn was a graduate of Big Spring High School, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God in Ira, Texas.
Big Spring City Council will meet Tuesday to discuss a number of items, including first reading of a resolution involving the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation and first reading of a resolution to pay back wages and damages to current and former city employees, part of a lawsuit concerning errors in overtime calculations.
Among the items set for Tuesday's meeting is a resolution amending the way the city reviews and approves projects and fiscal expenditures from the Big Spring EDC.
Veterans Day at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home will be a day of honor for all residents.
At 2 p.m., Friday, a special Veterans Day service will honor all veteran residents at the home with certificates honoring their service. Each certificate will bear the insignia of the branch of U.S. Armed Forces in which each veteran served.

Early voting in this yearâ€™s constitutional amendment election wrapped up Friday with vote tallies falling just shy of results from the previous amendment contest two years ago, according to Howard County election officials.
Approximately 275 ballots were cast â€” including mail-in ballots â€” according to County Elections Administrator Saundra Bloom, putting the election on track to come close to the 600-plus ballots cast in the 2009 contest.
