The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• MARIO IRENEO YANEZ, 30, of 800 Willia, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
• CHRISTOPHER BENNETT WOOTEN, 50, of 301 State, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated – third or more offense.
• MARTIN ANTHONY RAMIREZ, 20, of 1601 Stadium, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Rebuild or renovate? Public hearing on Moss set for Thursday

The public will get a chance to sound off on whether Big Spring school officials should replace or renovate Moss Elementary.

A public hearing on Big Spring Independent School District plans for Moss will highlight this month's meeting of the BSISD Board of Trustees, scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the high school board room.

Honor Flights need financial boost

One day isn't nearly enough, but it's a start.

A little more than 300 veterans will be given the opportunity to gather together and take a free flight to Washington, to visit the World War II Memorial.

“We are losing around 1,100 WWII veterans a day,” Jeff Ballenger said. “We are aiming to raise $250,000. These flights are one way that we can pay tribute to them.”

• LESTER CLAUDE DUFFER, 31, of 2506 Hunter Drive, was arrested for driving while license suspended/invalid previous conviction.
• ALTHA ROY WILLIAMS, 42, of 612 Country Club Rd. Apt. F, Jacksonville, North, was arrested for public intoxication.
• ANSELMO JOEL ONTIVEROS, 25, of 4213 Hamilton, was arrested for failure to identify.
• CRISTA CAROLYN COKER, 20, of 208 Moore Rd., was arrested for failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Keva Lou Hays Holley Hancock, 83, formerly of Tuscola, passed away Sunday Feb. 6, 2011, in a local nursing facility. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 9, 2011, at the Forsan Baptist Church. A visitation was held Tuesday evening at Myers & Smith Funeral Home in Big Spring from 5-7 p.m.; an additional visitation will be held in Tuscola at the Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m., with a graveside service at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, in the Tuscola Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home, Tuscola.

SFC George Ferguson, 70, of Big Spring died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. Memorial services with military honors will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Thursday at 216 S. Moss Lake Road.

Petra M. Reyes, 80, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Odessa Regional Medical Center in Odessa. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Templo Belen. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.

Norma Nell Kelley, 85, of Big Spring died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at her home after a lengthy illness. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Randy Cotton, pastor or Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
