Doug Nichols, 68, of Big Spring died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in San Angelo. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
A Howard County grand jury handed down more than two dozen indictments last week, including numerous true-bills for possession of a controlled substance.
The grand jury met Thursday but because of the Easter holidays, results were not released until Monday afternoon.
Among those indicted were:
â€˘ Jesus Castaneda Bustamante, 69, of 605 S. Nolan, possession of a controlled substance (state jail felony).
â€˘ Jimmy Escovedo Rodriquez, 53, currently being held at the county jail, possession of a controlled substance (third-degree felony, enhanced).
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ ARMANDO JOSE CERVANTES, 18, of 1304 Madison, was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily harm to a family member, consumption of alcohol by a minor and failure to appear.
â€˘ MARTIN ANTHONY RAMIREZ, 20, of 2008 Nolan, was arrested Monday on warrants for assault â€“ family violence and failure to appear.
Area residents of Big Spring's District 2 will get the chance to get rid of some of their oversized garbage Friday, as the city continues its annual large item pickup service.
Clara Mae Fletcher Brown, age 97 of Roby passed away April 24, 2011, in Rotan. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Roby Church of Christ with Jason Alton officiating.
Marvelene Bradford Dickson, 80, of Kingsland, formerly of Big Spring died Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Kingsland. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham, minister of 14th and Main Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Marion Kay Doyle, 68, of Oâ€™Donnell died April 23, 2011. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, April 25, 2011, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Oâ€™Donnell. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Church of Christ in Lamesa. Interment will be held at Gail Cemetery.
COLORADO CITY â€” New year, new classification, same postseason hopes for the Forsan Buffaloes.
The Buffaloes clinched a spot in the Class 2A state high school baseball playoffs with a 12-5 victory over Colorado City Monday afternoon.
Forsan came into the game needing a win to hold off Coahoma for the final District 3-2A playoff spot. A loss to C-City would have dropped the Buffs into a tie with Coahoma and forced a one-game playoff between the teams.
After a 12-year drought, a Howard College cowgirl will be representing the school at the College National Finals rodeo.
Hawk barrel racer Kaci Smith became the first Howard cowgirl to claim a spot in the CNFR since 1999, when Kim Green brought home the Reserve National Champion award in barrel racing.
â€śKaci is doing what Kaci does best right now,â€ť said Greg Kernick, Howard College rodeo coach. â€śSheâ€™s done a great job throughout the entire season and has peaked at just the right time.â€ť
Joe Don Marrow, 68, of Big Spring, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
