Cars, Stars, Handlebars to aid BSSH

It’s one way the funding gets done, and it relies on you.

Money generated from the past seven Cars, Stars and Handlebars fundraisers have assisted Big Spring State Hospital patients with a host of needs over the years, ranging from a new patient transport vehicle to a family visitation center.

Forsan thespians wrap up successful season

FORSAN — Elizabeth Rhodes and Zachary Long, Forsan High School students, earned a spot on the All-Star Cast for University Interscholastic League District One Act Play contest held Saturday.

Joining the duo for acting honors were fellow students Aaron Alton and Bryce Gartman, who were selected for honorable mention at the competition, held at Sundown, Texas.

Ray Davidson

Ray Davidson, 90, of Big Spring, Texas, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial following at Trinity Memorial Park with full military honors.

Marcie Lykken

Marcie Lykken, 65, of Big Spring, Texas, died Monday March 31, 2014, at her residence in Big Spring. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 704 Capri Court in Big Spring. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Ivins officiating. A reception will follow at the church.

Welby Jackson

Welby Jackson, 88, of Odessa, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, Texas, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, in an Odessa nursing home. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Lindsey officiating. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mission Dorado Baptist Church in Odessa with the Rev. Bob Bratcher officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Sandra L. Lane

Sandra L. Lane, 59, of Big Spring, died Saturday, March 29, 2014, at her residence. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Calvary Callender, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 301 Dealy.

She was born Dec. 8, 1954, in Somers Point, N.J., and married Walter Lane Nov. 10, 1973, in Linwood, N.J.

Mahlaya Woodruff

Mahlaya Woodruff, 5, of Coahoma, Texas, died Sunday March 31, 2014, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.

BSJHS turns in historic effort at Key City Relays

The Big Spring Junior High School Lady Steers had a day people will remember for years to come on Saturday at the annual Key City Junior High Relays in Abilene. Mainly because much of it will be written in the record books.

Junior high meet set for April 5

The Big Spring Junior High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams will compete in the District 4-3A Junior High Track and Field Meet on April 5 in Snyder. The meet will be held the Snyder High School track.

Players sought for new men’s fastpitch league

Men’s softball could be players from the Midland and Odessa area looking to restart themen’s fastpitch league. Players and pitchers are being sought.
If the league forms, games would be played at Cotton Mize field.
