Care for a bit of Birdie?
The Big Spring High School drama and choir departments will team up this weekend to present “An Evening of Bye Bye Birdie” in the high school auditorium.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free but donations will be accepted.
The students will perform excerpts from the popular Broadway musical, in which a famous rock star (think Elvis Presley circa 1958) travels to a small town in Ohio to make his farewell TV performance before being drafted into the Army.
Eight area students received a major pat on the back as they were named winners of the Big Spring Optimist Club's annual Outstanding Student Awards.
DeAnna Clare and Andrew Fillingim of Big Spring High School, Rachel Kennedy and Brayden Iden of Coahoma High School, Regan Newsom and Zane Herrin of Forsan High School and Morgan Yarbrough and Blak Thomasson of Sands High School were named winners of the awards, club officials announced.
To be considered for the award, students must excel in the areas of academics, extra-curricular activities and community service.
