Ringing in a holiday tradition: SA needs volunteers

While the Christmas holiday is accompanied by a number of familiar sights and sounds in the Crossroads area — Christmas trees, festive lighting, candy canes and nativity scenes — it simply wouldn't be the same without the tolling bells and red kettles of the Salvation Army.

Living Christmas Tree this weekend

Time is running out for area residents hoping to get tickets for the 32nd annual First United Methodist Church Living Christmas Tree, which will help kick the holiday season into high gear this weekend.

According to Program Coordinator Eddie Vandewalker, performances will begin with a formal dress rehearsal at 2 p.m. Saturday, which will be open to the public.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ROBERT DUANE BUCK, 41, of 1101 E. 15th St., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for assault – family violence.
• BRUCE ERVIN ESSIX, 44, of 1304 Ridgeroad, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license invalid.
• BENJAMIN FRANKLIN REYNOLDS, 65, of 101 Carey, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of theft of service.
• HENRY TREVINO FRANCO JR., 19, of 507 N.W. 10th St., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for consumption of alcohol by a minor.
