County OKs park pact

Howard County commissioners voted unanimously Monday in favor of an inter-local agreement with the city to lend financial support to the Big Spring State Park, opting to go from a previously approved three-year renewal schedule to revisit the matter annually.

Both local governments have agreed to chip in $10,000 each — to be paid to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department — to help fund the continued operation of the state park, which was targeted for closure by the state earlier this year.

The members of St. Mary’s Parish are busy preparing traditional Scottish recipes for their upcoming St. Andrew’s Day Evening Prayer and Scottish Music Festival set for 7 p.m. Sunday.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• PHILLIP BERNALD WHEAT, 54, of 1314 Mobile, was arrested Monday on warrants for driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction and driving while license invalid.
• RUDOLFO HERNANDEZ HILARIO, 51, of 402 Edwards Blvd., was arrested Monday on a warrant for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate.
• JESSE MARTINEZ, 43, of 107 Becker Rd., was arrested Monday on a charge of shoplifting (theft) – more than $50 and less than $500.
