Howard County Humane Society is at a point where animals are having to be turned away. As of Thursday afternoon, the shelter was housing 159 dogs and 65 cats.

“If we can take an animal we will and the situation changes daily, but the normal flow is for every one animal we adopt out we have one or two to take its place,” Jo Stone, Humane Society coordinator, said.
