The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• JOHNNY RAY PAYNE, 31, of 1509 E. Stadium, was arrested Saturday on warrants for public intoxication, being in the city park after hours and riding without a safety belt.
• GREGORY SHANE ROBERSON, 28, of 711 Washington, was arrested Saturday on warrants for assault – family violence and a warrant from another agency.
• IRMA MORIN YANEZ, 37, of 1610 Cardinal, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction.
You might not expect to find an Italian pianist of international acclaim in the Crossroads area, but that will be exactly the case Feb. 25, as Francesco Attesti will perform a piano concert to benefit the local CARE Fund.
Attesti — who is considered one of the finest interpreters of the Romantic and early 20th Century Repertoire — will be performing a program largely based on the works of Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin at the Hall Center for the Arts on the Howard College campus at 7:30 p.m.
Big Spring Independent School District officials are playing a financial waiting game of sorts as they try to determine just how big an economic impact the state's budget shortfall will have locally.
With Texas facing a projected budget shortfall in excess of $15 billion, it stands to reason that state aid to school districts such as BSISD will be reduced this coming fiscal year. The question local educators are facing is: How big will the reduction be?
