Coahoma High School has named Josh Castilaw as its 2011 valedictorian and Michael Weihert as salutatorian.
Castilaw is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Castilaw and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Coates. During his high school career he served as freshman class president. He was a student council representative for three years and served as student council president his senior year. He also served as senior class president. He was in National Honor Society for three years and received the John Philip Sousa Award this year. He also made the “A” honor roll.
Forsan Elementary School students at Elbow collected a busload of plastics in a week's time and learned a lot about recycling along the way.
Three large bales of plastic, weighing approximately 3,000 pounds, were sent to Wal-Mart’s recycling center. T
his year, the Gifted and Talented class decided to “Go Green.” All projects were based on that premise. The class visited the Keep Big Spring Beautiful Club meeting and participated in the Trash Off event in April.
Officials with the Salvation Army's Boys and Girls Club of Big Spring are asking area residents to search their garages and attics for donations to Saturday's community yard sale to raise much-needed funds to send local youngsters to camp.
According to Sonnet Hildebrand, director of the local Boys and Girls Club, donations to the annual yard sale have come in slowly.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• LOUIS ANTONIO SILVA, 22, of 1210 Lindberg, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for open container in a motor vehicle – passenger.
• KENNETH JAMES YORK, 31, of Granbury, was arrested Tuesday on two warrants from another agency.
• JAMES EARL MAGERS, 49, of 1511 Tucson, was arrested Tuesday on charges of driving while license invalid/suspended with a previous conviction and possession of drug paraphernalia.
