Never forget

Cub Scout Justin Raymond takes part in the placing of the flags at Trinity Memorial Cemetery Saturday morning. Every year the scouts get together and recognize veterans who gave their lives by placing flags on their gravesite for Memorial Day. Two local ceremonies are planned for Monday to commemorate those who gave their lives in service to our country. At 11 a.m., the Big Spring Vietnam Memorial will mark its 20th anniversary with a program feturing guest speakers Sonny Choate and Tim McKinnon. Trinity Memorial Park’s annual Memorial Day observance is scheduled for 2 p.m.

A special surprise

May 28, 2011

A couple of Big Spring natives reunited in a special way recently, and — thanks to reality television — the whole nation can share the moment.
U.S. Army Sgt. Garrett Huitt, his wife April and their children Aaric and Kendall will be featured in the TLC broadcast of “Surprise Homecoming” Monday night at 9 p.m. Central Time.
The series, which is hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus, features surprise military homecomings. The hour-long show features three such “reunions,” including the Huwitt family homecoming that took place March 15.
