July 25, 2011

For several years the old Runnels Junior High building sat vacant, but now it has new life pouring in.

Big Spring Independent School District decided to sell the property a few years ago to Life Church, and in the process, the building found not only a new owner, but a renewed purpose.

The winning bid —which included 10 acres and all five buildings on the property – was awarded for $10,000.

Atmos rate plan draws city’s ire

July 25, 2011

The city of Big Spring is expected to tell Atmos Energy to head back to the drawing board when it comes to rate increases, as the multi-city steering committee involved in the most recent rate reviews will issue a full denial to the natural gas company.

According to Peggy Walker, finance director for the city of Big Spring, the full denial will force Atmos to reconsider the rate increases it is asking for and make a new presentation during its annual system-wide rate review.
