Strickland joins Eye Associates

July 9, 2011

It's a profession he stumbled into, but one he has come to enjoy.
Clipper Strickland, the new optometrist at The Eye Associates, was attending McMurry University when he just happened to go into optometry. After receiving his bachelor of science degree at McMurry, he continued his education at the Univeristy of Houston College of Optometry.
“There's really no profound story on how I came to be in this profession,” Strickland said. “I just happened to stumble into it and I have enjoyed it ever since.”

Benefit planned for area firefighters

July 9, 2011

It's not a surprise local firefighters have been busy this year.
Due to all the grassfires, especially the most recent Boykin Road Fire and South Mountain Fire, the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department, surrounding county volunteer fire departments, Big Spring Fire Department and Texas Forest Service have been putting in long hours to ensure the safety of Crossroads residents.
In honor of all their hard work, numerous people and organizations have joined together to put on a Firemen Benefit, Auction and Dance.

The one-vehicle rollover occurred in the east bound lanes of I-20 about 5 miles outside Big Spring around 7 p.m. A male and female passenger — names unknown and not released by DPS officials at the time — were treated on scene before being flown to the hospital.
Two ambulances and two Air Evac helicopters were called to the scene, as well as the Howard County Sheriff's Office, Big Spring Fire Department and DPS.

Landtroop evaluates his first session

July 9, 2011

For Big Spring's freshman state representative, a lot of good things were accomplished during this year's session of the Texas Legislature.
Jim Landtroop (R-Plainview) proudly pointed to a balanced budget and bills he said advanced the conservative agenda that best reflects Texans' wishes as he looked back on the Legislature's 2011 session, his first as the District 85 representative.
But he conceded some bad was sprinkled in with the positive accomplishments.
