A Big Spring man was arrested Tuesday and charged with cruelty to livestock animals in connection with the July 13 seizure of several horses suffering from malnourishment.
Joel Venegas Estrella, 51, was booked into the Howard County jail on a charge of cruelty to livestock animals just before midnight, following an investigation by the Howard County Sheriff's Office, according to Sheriff Stan Parker.
"He was taken into custody without incident,” Parker said.
Big Spring school trustees are expected to put their formal stamp of approval on the district's single-member redistricting plan when they hold their monthly meeting at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in the high school board room.
Redrawing the seven single-member trustee districts to adequately reflect population and demographic changes in the last 10 years has been a months-long process, involving lawyers, demographers and an advisory committee comprised of both school officials and local citizens.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ JIMMY FRANCIS GARRARD, 37, of 303 S.E. Ninth St., was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for assault â€“ family violence.
â€¢ DENA GAYE COKER, 54, of 1403 S. Nolan, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€¢ ISAAC DANIEL CHAVARRIA, 25, of 1504 Nolan, was arrested Tuesday on charges of driving while license suspended/invalid with a previous conviction and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
