For the second time since the 2008 explosion that rocked the Big Spring Refinery, a Howard County jury found owner Alon USA guilty of negligence and awarded local residents damages but failed to find gross negligence.
COAHOMA — For the third time in the past six years, Coahoma Independent School District is in the market for a superintendent.
Trustees will begin the process of replacing Dr. Randy Brown when they hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the administration building board room.
Brown, CISD's superintendent for the past three years, is resigning his position effective Aug. 22 to accept a similar post at Snyder ISD.
His departure was greeted by a mixture of appreciation and sadness.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• RICHARD LEE OLIVAS, 24, of 1600 Donley, was arrested Monday on a warrant from another agency.
• BRITTNEY JO HILGER, 17, of 3618 Hamilton, was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of marijuana — less than or equal to two ounces in a drug free zone.
• JOEY EUGENE MATA, 23, of 1103 W. Fifth, was arrested Monday on charges of theft — less than $50 shoplifting, violation protective order communicates ( two counts).
