9/11 remembrance ceremony planned Sunday at mall

Ten years and counting, but not forgotten.

September 11, 2001, is a day that was marked as one that would live in infamy, and it has. No one has forgotten where they were when terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, and how that act forever changed lives.

The remembrance ceremonies may not be what they once were, but they still exist, especially in Big Spring. The Big Spring Mall will be the location for a 2 p.m. memorial service Sunday.

Olympic gold medalist to speak on success

It’s all about the journey to success — at least that’s the message Dominique Dawes hopes to bring during the Scenic Mountain Medical Center Healthy Woman event scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

Twice a year, the Howard College Foundation Speaker Series brings in an individual to inspire and moti-vate members of the community. The event is free, but a ticket is required.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ASHLEY RENEE GARCIA, 18, of 1002 N. Gregg, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency and a local warrant for theft – shoplifting.
• DANIEL RIOS, 25, of 905 E. 16th St., was arrested Thursday on charges of criminal mischief, evading arrest or detention, resisting arrest, search or transportation and a warrant from another agency.
• BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported in the 1400 block of Park.
• THEFT was reported:
In the 1300 block of Madison.
