A heater treater erupted into flames Saturday morning, causing a huge smoke streak across the city of Big Spring. The heater treater was located on the northwest portion of Howard County off FM 176. Howard County Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene, ensuring the fire did not spread to a nearby tank battery.
According to other media sources, three heater treaters were on fire at once. The fire has been contained and put out according to reports.
Entrants take part in the barrow competition Friday at the Howard County Junior Livestock Show. Coahoma FFA members Brody Coates and Anna Fontana show off their entries. Coates’ barrow was named champion and Fontana’s was named reserve champion of the class. The show was to wrap up with Saturday’s auction.
Nick Conner continued a family tradition.
Sebastian Hernandez started one of his own.
Motivated in different ways, both Big Spring High School Band members overcame tough competition and admitted cases of nerves to be named to the Association of Texas Small School Bands Class 3A All-State Band.
Hernandez, a senior percussionist, and Conner, a freshman trombonist, will perform with the Texas All-State Band at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center as part of the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio Feb. 11.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Saturday:
• SCOTTY RAY BLAND, 33, of 1900 Martin Luther King Blvd., was arrested Friday on a charge of driving while licenses suspended/invalid with previous conviction and warrant from other agency.
• APRIL NICOLE TURNER, 17, of 4215 Hamilton St., was arrested Friday charged as a runaway.
• JUSTIN IVAN SPEER, 36, of 1608 E. Fifth St., was arrested Friday on a warrant for driving while license invalid.

Hangar 25 Air Museum will have its annual membership meeting at 6 p.m Thursday at the hangar.
“All we ask is that people show up. They don’t need to bring anything except themselves and their smiling faces,” Stockburger said. “However, they might want to bring a jacket, it might be cold.”
Museum hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The museum will be closed Saturdays until February.
