Despite a little chilly morning weather Friday, the Rev. Barbara Kirk-Norris, rector of St. Mary the Virgin Episcopal Church, blesses a little black lab mix, one of the 155 dogs and 35 cats housed at the Howard County Humane Society. St. Mary’s Parish will hold a second community Blessing of the Animals service at 3 p.m. Sunday in the church’s Bennett Garden, 1001 S. Goliad.
A former Big Spring radio personality who pleaded guilty to a single charge of online solicitation of a minor and was sentenced to six years in prison in 118th District Court Friday, was unsuccessful in an attempt to hang himself later in the day, officials said.
Kyle Wade Guthrie, 28, formerly of 408 Hillside Dr. who most recently had been residing in Wichita Falls, was rushed from the Howard County Detention Center by EMS to Scenic Mountain Medical Center. No details about the attempt were released, other than it occurred at 4:58 p.m.
FORSAN — School district trustees here are expected to take the next step toward a possible bond election when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the administration wing board room.
Forsan Independent School District trustees will consider hiring an architectural firm to help assess and address facility needs during the meeting.
A local woman is free on bail after being arrested in connection with a 2009 traffic fatality that claimed the life of a former Big Spring resident.
Crystal Lee Calderon, 30, of Big Spring, was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter, a charge that carries a potential sentence of between two and 10 years in state prison.
Calderon is alleged to have been intoxicated on July 12, 2009, when the vehicle she was driving was involved in an accident on Interstate 20 in Martin County.
