Big Spring High School was evacuated Monday morning following a bomb threat, however, law enforcement officials say the call was a hoax.
According to Sgt. Tony Everett, public information officer with the Big Spring Police Department, the call was received at 9:52 a.m. by local law enforcement dispatch.
“Dispatch received a 911 call from a male subject who claimed there was a bomb in the high school,” Everett said. “School officials were immediately notified and the building was evacuated. Officers responded to the scene and conducted a search of the premises.”
Coordinators with the local Salvation Army Angel Tree program say an over-abundance of angel cards has forced them to extend the annual effort until noon Wednesday in hopes of providing for area low income children and seniors.
According to Bessie Flores, a social worker with the local charity, there are approximately 90 angel cards left on the program's last tree, representing a tremendous shortfall for the holiday effort.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• ERIN CLEO STANSBURY, 31, of Lawton, Okla., was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.
• AUSTIN JOHNSON, 23, of Dallas, Texas, was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
• BURGLARY OF A BUILDING was reported in the 600 block of E. Third Street.
• THEFT was reported in the 1300 block of Park Street.
