Man charged with harming two children

A Big Spring man was arrested and charged with two counts of injury Tuesday evening after allegedly assaulting two children, according to officials with the Big Spring Police Department.

Ray Martinez Alvarado, 34, of 1500 Lincoln Ave., was arrested on charges of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury (two counts) after police officials say he physically assaulted the children, who are members of his household.

Landtroop talks redistricting, education

Redistricting may have been the scheduled focus of Tuesday's town hall meeting at the Hall Center of the Arts, but it was by no means the only topic addressed.

State Rep. Jim Landtroop opened the meeting by honoring Howard County Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Sullivan and Fire Marshal Carl Condray with flags that flown over the capitol. The presentation was made as a way to recognize the service demonstrated during the past year's fire season.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ALBERTO HOLGUIN MENDOZA, 67, of 406 N.W. 11th St., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• MICHAEL DON FULBRIGHT, 47, of 900 Runnels, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for public intoxication, speeding in a school zone and a warrant from another agency.
• RAY MARTINEZ ALVARADO, 34, of 1500 Lincoln Ave., was arrested Tuesday on charges of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury (two counts).
