As temperatures heat up, many area residents will turn their attention to local lakes and swimming pools to try to keep cool. However, according to officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, fun in the water can quickly turn deadly without proper supervision.
The DFPS is kicking off a new campaign this year aptly named âWatch Kids Around Water,â which includes a summer-long ad campaign to help educate the public on the importance of supervising children around water, safety tips and other valuable information
Big Spring Independent School District will hold summer school for elementary and secondary students beginning Monday and running through June 28.
Classes will be held Mondays through Thursdays, school officials said.
Elementary students will attend classes from 8 a.m. until noon at Goliad Intermediate School, while secondary students will attend classes from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Big Spring Junior High School. Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge at both campuses.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢ CODY DEJUAN HAWKINS, 29, of 810 Cherry, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
â¢ SHIMEON RASHAD MAGERS, 28, of 1511 Tucson, was arrested Thursday on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility (three counts), failure to appear (12 counts), failure to display driver's license, driving without a safety belt (two counts), expired registration and five warrants from other agencies.
