A Big Spring man was killed and two others injured in an early morning one-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. Highway 87 just a few hundred feet south of the city limits, according to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
William Jessie Berry, 23, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Howard County Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman at approximately 2 a.m., according to communication officials with the Regional DPS Office in Midland, Texas.
DPS officials verified next of kin had been notified at the time of this report.
Construction of Big Spring's new elementary schools is reaching its final, furiously paced stages.
During their Thursday meeting, Big Spring Independent School District trustees learned that three of the four new elementary campuses are “essentially” complete, while construction crews have adopted an “all hands on deck” approach to getting the fourth school ready for the start of the new school year.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• JESSE TONY REYES JR., 25, of 1006 S. Goliad, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from other agency.
• AUDREY LANE SHERRILL, 28, of 1007 S. Nolan St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of criminal mischief impair/interrupt/divert public water.
• RYAN LYLE BLAKE, 30, of 1207 Settles St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant from other agency.
• MICHAEL DEAN NALL, 33, of 1605 Sunset Ave., was arrested Thursday on a charge of possession of marijuana less than or equal to two ounces.
